This book traces the development of feminist ideas in Britain from religious to secular contexts; covers the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries under the headings Amazons of the pen, reforming women, and campaigning women; and broadens through the suffrage struggle and the twentieth century to consider the world-wide work of feminists beyond Britain.
