With a slender output (five collections of poetry and two collaborative volumes),is a respected poet of the late twentieth century. Her choice of topics is bold: not only erotic love but also violent relationships, not only feminist analysis but also feminist self-criticism. Her poems fuse the personal and the political (on social and environmental topics) and the surreal with the closely and accurately observed. She has also published critical essays, reviews, and translations.
