Norah Lofts

Throughout her long and prolific career, NL published meticulously researched her popular historical novels, short stories, historical biographies, crime and mystery novels, children's books, magazine pieces, and non-fictional works about history and superstitions.. Lofts varies the tones and settings of her writing but is consistent in often taking women as her subject. Her more than fifty titles, mostly novels, were very popular in the United States as well as in England, and are still being reprinted more than twenty years after her death.

Norah Robinson (later NL ) was born at Shipdham in Norfolk, according to the Feminist Companion.
The website of Suffolk Record Office , however, says that she not only lived in Suffolk but was also born there.

The year before NL gave up working as a teacher, she published her first novel, I Met A Gypsy.

NL died in her sleep at her home, Northgate House in Northgate Street, in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

1984

Pargeters, the last novel by NL , was issued posthumously the year after her death, and in two separate paperback editions the next year.
It has no apparent relation to Virginia Woolf 's The Pargiters: rejected draft portions of Woolf's The Years, which reached print in a scholarly edition in 1977, more than thirty-five years after Woolf's death.
