Charles Dodgson (better known as LC ), mathematician, photographer, and children's writer, was born at Daresbury near Warrington in Lancashire.

He was educated at home by his father, an Anglican priest. LC attended grammar school from the age of twelve, and later went on to study mathematics at Christ Church, Oxford . He graduated in 1854.
