Of her nineteen works, published in the first half of the twentieth century, most describe her experiences as a traveller, and all are influenced by her missionary work. She is sole author of only one book; is co-author of her others. Although she wrote biographies, children's books, and missionary guides, is best known for her much-praised travel narratives, including an autobiography written in the third person.
