Harriet Tytler's memoirs, written late in her life, combine accounts of her early life and independent travels as a mid-Victorian woman in India with a history and vivid anecdotal account of the 'Indian Mutiny'. These memoirs are the only published work of this active, well-travelled painter and photographer.
