Works By
Elizabeth Teft was a poet of the earlier eighteenth century whose work suggests considerable independence of mind. Many of her poems are social or occasional; some are political.
Milestones
Presumably after 1723 ET's birth, at Rothwell in Lincolnshire, has generally been dated 1723; but the baby given this name in this year died in 1724. Her parents must have used the same name again, as was not uncommon. Bibliographic Citation link.
9 September 1741 ET composed "Orinthia's Request to the Gentlemen of Fortune", the poem with which she apparently first reached print. Bibliographic Citation link.
1747 ET published Orinthia's Miscellanies; or, A Compleat Collection of Poems. Bibliographic Citation link.
The date and place of ET's death are unknown: nothing is heard of her after the publication of her book.
