Anne Stevenson is an important contemporary poet, an heir to both the US and the British traditions. She experimented with drama and fiction early in her career. She writes fine criticism, and has edited the poems of others.

3 January 1933 AS was born in
Cambridge,
England; her American parents took her back to the
USA while she was still a baby.

By June 1954 Before graduating, AS won the Major Hopgood Award for her poetry collection "Aspects of Season".

1969 AS, back in Britain as a resident of
Scotland, nevertheless published her second poetry volume,
Reversals (which she calls her first "real"

one), with Wesleyan University Press in the
United States.
