Lucy Toulmin Smith was a literary scholar who served as the first librarian at
Manchester College,
Oxford. Her writings, which spanned the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, include work on a periodical, scholarly editions of medieval and early modern English and French texts, a medieval commonplace book, a grammar manual, and translations.
Milestones
By 30 April 1870 LTS completed and published with her own introduction
English Gilds, a collection of early English trade guild ordinances which her
father had begun to compile before his death.

By 8 August 1885 LTS published the first edition of the
York cycle of mystery plays, entitled
York Plays: The Plays Performed by the Crafts or Mysteries of York on the Day of Corpus Christi in the 14th, 15th, and 16th Centuries.
