Margaret Emily Shore, who died in her twentieth year in 1839, became known for precocious writing in several genres: poetry, short fiction, science writing, and—the best-known of her works and almost all that survives—the diary of her formative years marked by the onset and progress of tuberculosis.

5 July 1831 Eleven-year-old MES began her adolescent diary; it extended to twelve octavo volumes by the time of her final entry on 24 July 1839, two weeks before her death. Bibliographic Citation link.
