Works By
Hester Shaw, a wealthy London businesswoman (midwife and moneylender) in the mid-sixteenth century, published either two or three pamphlets attacking the minister of her church: not on religious grounds but in a quarrel over property.
Milestones
Shortly before 11 April 1586 Hester Essex (later HS) was born in London; she was baptised on this date, apparently an only child. Bibliographic Citation link.
1653 HS published the first of the two pamphlets that bear her name, concerning her personal losses of goods and money in the fire and explosion in her London street a few years before: A Plaine Relation of my Sufferings. Bibliographic Citation link.
Shortly before 18 June 1660 HS died in the parish of Allhallows, London, where she had been born. Bibliographic Citation link.
