Madeleine de Scudéry is the most famous of the seventeenth-century French authors of heroic romances: fictions of great length, which centred on the lives, loves, and philosophical disquisitions of aristocratic characters. She also wrote poetry and letters.
Milestones
15 November 1607 MS, writer of heroic romance, was born at
Le Havre in
Normandy; she was one of two surviving children in her family.


2 June 1701 MS, leading exponent of the multi-volume heroic romance or '
roman de longue haleine', died in
Paris.
