London, one of the younger members of a family of whose survivors to adulthood included her three sisters and a brother.

By March 1786 HL anonymously published her first book:
The Errors of Innocence, a five-volume epistolary novel.

1 August 1851 HL died of heart failure at
Clifton, having long outlived all her sisters.
