Works By
Mary Fage shared her passion for anagrams with Lady Eleanor Douglas and many others in the earlier seventeenth century. She was unique in publishing a book of verse incorporating anagrams and acrostics on the names of the British establishment: an eccentric work which suggests a deep respect both for those set in authority and for the systematising powers of language.
Milestones
MF's date of birth is not known; it could equally well have been before or after 1600.
1637 MF published, with her own name, Fames Roule, an extraordinary work providing anagrams and acrostics on the names of all the leading people in England, beginning with the king and queen, set into poems of compliment. Bibliographic Citation link.
The date of her own death (presumably after her single publication of 1637) is another mystery.
