Ellen Mary Clerke, active during the second half of the nineteenth century, was a well-known linguist who published translations of Italian verse. In addition, she wrote poetry, published a novel, and was a frequent contributor to several periodicals.
Milestones

October 1878 EMC's extensive career as a contributor to English periodicals began about this time; this month she published articles on "Poetry of Michael Angelo" in the Dublin Review and "Later Novels of Berthold Auerbach" in the Westminster Review. Bibliographic Citation link.
