Emilie Barrington published three novels (all either early or late in her writing career, which spans the nineteenth and twentieth centuries), a religious work, and a travel book, but she made her name as the author of biographies and other scholarly work about several prominent men with whom she was personally connected. scholarly note link.

18 October 1841 Emilie Isabel Wilson (later EB) was born at 15 Hertford Street in Mayfair, London, the youngest of six daughters. Bibliographic Citation link.  scholarly note link.
1884 EB compiled a critical catalogue of paintings by George Frederic Watts for an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York—which she herself had persuaded Watts to agree to. Bibliographic Citation link.
By 14 May 1914 EB published a life of the writer and political theorist Walter Bagehot, her brother-in-law. Bibliographic Citation link.
