Elizabeth Jane Howard, a novelist of the later twentieth century, has also written short stories (some of them ghost stories), plays, film and television scripts, reviews and articles, biographies, a memoir, and she has edited several anthologies. She has published seven novels as well as a family saga in four titles.
26 March 1923 EJH was born in London, the eldest and the only girl in a family of three surviving children. Bibliographic Citation link.
By 23 March 1956 EJH published The Long View, a novel which opens with the break-up of a marriage and then traces in flashback key moments in the relationship, step by step backwards to the first meeting twenty-four years earlier. Bibliographic Citation link.
2 January 2014 EJH died, aged ninety, at her home at Bungay in Suffolk.
